Day 10 – Two Down One Left To Bag

Mount Meru's rocky ridgelines

The morning is crisp and clear, the weather your pray for if heading to any summit, anywhere. The wind seemed calm, at least at base camp.

A text came through from Holly at 6:58am, exclaiming the three words we have all been waiting to hear…

“Everyone made it.”

Looking up at Meru, I could imagine the team all hugging, cheering – and probably some just ready to turn and head back down – standing atop Tanzania’s second highest peak. It is a rocky summit, not much room to navigate around, but always plenty to snap a few photos and watch the sunrise. And that’s just what they did…

Help us welcome them back. Send your comments through and as always your cheers from across the world!

Massive thanks to all who have supported this years team and 3 Peaks 3 Weeks.

  1. Congrats on bagging #2! You will soon complete your perfect prep, and be recovered and acclimated, for the big one.

Granted, Einstein was brilliant, but how did he know all about exactly what you are doing……right now?

“Creating a new theory is not like destroying an old barn and erecting a skyscraper in its place. It is rather like climbing a mountain, gaining new and wider views, discovering unexpected connections between our starting points and its rich environment. But the point from which we started out still exists and can be seen, although it appears smaller and forms a tiny part of our broad view gained by the mastery of the obstacles on our adventurous way up.” Albert Einstein

  34. Almost always, the creative dedicated minority has made the world better. – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This week’s quote again goes out to the 2011 3 Peaks 3 Weeks team which summited their second Peak, Mt. Meru as a strong team! This past Monday was a holiday in the USA in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a civil rights activist. We can make the world better even if it’s not easy and popular. Keep doing what you are doing, and people start to take notice and ask how to get involved. Your actions inspire others. Can’t wait to read that you have summited Kilimanjaro soon! Enjoy the trek and don’t forget to eat your vegetables!

  35. Dear Aunt Lynne,
I read and reread this blog daily and words escape me. I am so proud and feel so moved by all that you do every day. I hope you can feel love from all the way across the world, because we are sending it! I love you so much!

    Dear Team 2011,
I know you have the strength to climb to new heights physically and mentally! I wish you all the best! You are all truly inspirations.

  36. Good quote from Jim Wickwire that seems to apply particularly well to 3P3W 2011…..
“I’ve climbed with some of the best climbers in the world. More importantly, to me, they are some of the best people in the world. That’s another reason why I climb.”

  37. Sarah & team, amazing that you’ve got2 down!! So proud of you kaz!! Love ya girl!

  38. Hope all is well. You all must be busy, preparing for the final climb.Have not had updates since the 20th.It certainly has been a great accomplishment this far.You all should be proud and gratefull fo the opportunity
    love ya,nana

  39. “Think occasionally of the suffering of which you spare yourself the sight.” ~Albert Schweitzer

Today I read your blog and congratulate you on your second peak. This quote is in reference to animal rights – the purpose behind your fund raising efforts this year. I applaud your efforts and results. Keep your eyes on the sky!

  40. Sarah, it seems like yesterday that the golf tournament and other fund raisers were stressing you out. Remember the tears and self doubt? Well now the tears you shed every time you visit a site that you’ve worked so hard to support, or summit a mountain you’ve worked so hard to reach, are tears of joy and self realization. This will be most evident when you stand atop Mt Kilo and see the heavens and earth as only a few have. Enjoy the moment🙂. You more than deserve it for all of your hard work. And please say a prayer of thanks for all that we’ve been given and for those who are less fortunate, so they may some day stand atop their own Mt Kilo and smile and give thanks. And please don’t forget to give babci our eternal love. I know she smiles to see her granddaughter reach one goal after another!! Love you, Pops

  41. Holly! New earrings? Looks like you all are having a great time and for good worth. I never realzied that you were going to be hiking such ragged peaks. Great stuff…I think I am going to get Zoo a giraffe. Keep on keepin’ on. Ez

  42. Well done girls!! Meru is probably the hardest (in my mind) so good luck with Kili and hope you really enjoy your last mountain. xNiamh
